Lynette Yiadom-Boakye

A British artist known to paint “fictional black characters against muted backgrounds.” I think my favorite pieces are the grotesque ones, the woman fixing her blonde wig, the sinister looking, wanton figure in the red robe. What do they get into? Second are the dancing figures. Dancing is such a spiritual experience in the black community. Bodies in motion telling stories. Partners telepathically choreographing steps in sync. Which story is your favorite why? Via: Jack Shainman Gallery
