Six Day War Ceasefire Between Egypt & Israel

“In the days before the war started, US president Lyndon Johnson warned both the Egyptian-led Arab forces and Israel not to be the first to strike. The Arabs stood down and expected Israel would do the same. Instead, a heavily equipped Israeli army launched a surprise pre-emotive strike, using 200 Israeli jets to bomb eighteen Egyptian airfields, destroying more than 80 per cent of Egypt’s Air Force before noon of the first day of what became known as the Six-Day War.

This ambush ensured Israeli dominance in the sky, as Israeli ground troops pushed through their tanks and artillery, expanding the boarders of the 1949 Armistice Demarcation Line.”
