“A Sorceress Comes To Call” By T. Kingfisher

Evangeline is a powerful sorceress looking for a wealthier lifestyle. Actually, she’s fine being rich and wants her daughter Cordelia to be wealthy. When the man she’s seeing doesn’t play ball, Evangeline ruins his life with a spell and moves. Finding a new mark with a Squire in a different town. Unfortunately for her, his sister Hester stands in the way of their courtship. Awakened by a premonition of doom, Hester immediately sees through the wicked witch upon meeting her. She also figures out Cordelia is nothing like her mother, she’s another victim who must be saved like her brother. A game of chess ensues, with Hester throwing a house party to put distance between Evangeline and the Squire, that goes terribly awry.

Couldn’t put this book down. Based on the Brothers Grimm “Goose Girl,” this story is enchanting. The plot twists were twisting. The characters are memorable, affable and charming. There was no filler here. Everyone was well written. I didn’t want to leave this world. FYI there’s no difference between a witch and a sorceress, despite convoluted claims. Highly recommend reading this delightful fantasy. Via: MacMillan Publishers
