“Once There Were Wolves” By Charlotte McConaghy

Inti Flynn moves to Scotland to reintroduce wolves to the land. The town is entirely against it, scared for their livestock and lives. Devoted to rewilding the environment, she refuses to yield and a war of sorts begins. Escalated by the shooting of a wolf, the murder of a man, and discovery of animal carcasses. Inti tries to figure out if it’s the wolves or someone framing them, in order to prevent the packs slaughter. Life at home is equally hectic. She’s the caretaker of identical twin Aggie Flynn, who is silenced by the brutality of her husband and father. Men have failed them, demurring Inti from entering a relationship with chief of police Duncan MacTavish. Head over heels in love, she discovers he too, has a dark past tainted by violence.

Worth the read. The book started off a little slow for me, but picks up quickly. Delighted I kept going. It’s easily become one of my favorites. The parallels between wolves and people leaves the reader questioning the quantifiers of humanity. Told in two different timelines, this story has depth. The complex characters finding a nook in my heart. Themes of domestic violence, trauma, gender, man vs nature, love, duty and family, the plot is multi-dimensional. The characters are endearing, as they grapple with their past selves affecting the present. Bittersweet and beautifully told. Via: MacMillan Publishers

“Bury Our Bones In The Midnight Soil”

Rating books isn’t my vibe. I suggest a fraction of what I believe is worth reading. If I assigned a value it would persuade people based on my subjective opinion, not to read something that might have a different affect or effect on someone else. What’s better than a book that stirs conversation, gets you critically thinking? I devoured “Bury Our Bones In The Midnight Soil,” finished it in a matter of days. Summarizing the plot as toxic lesbian vampires is apt. The story is told from three different points of view: Sabine, Lottie, & Alice, spanning centuries. Leading to the intertwining of their lives, with the first two ladies seeking freedom from societal norms women had to abide by.

Alice on the other hand wakes up made in modern times. Unrestricted by gender, she’s able to attend university, read, has access to technology, can marry who she pleases, but possesses low self-esteem. Her life ending before coming of age, Alice is on a mission to find answers. How did a hookup stop her beating heart? All Lottie left behind was a post-it note and insatiable appetite for blood.

V.E Schwab is a phenomenal writer, this book explores themes of feminism, female rage, lgbtq, morality, mortality, betrayal and love. It’s character driven, which is where my issue stems from. While Sabine and Lottie are premium protagonists, with fascinating backgrounds, Alice isn’t as well developed. I wanted to skip her chapters altogether. Finding her lackluster and borderline miscellaneous. Oscillating between two women doing the utmost, to Alice doing the least, was difficult. Luckily her story isn’t the focal point. Read it. Some consider this is the authors best work, others felt disappointed. What will you think? Via: Amazon

First In The Bloodline Trend Part 2

Carrying the torch is cool, but so is being original (read First In The Bloodline Trend Part 1. Never be afraid to do your own thing, bringing something new to your bloodline. Also remember epigenetics and generational curses are real. Being chosen to break cycles and pass down better, evolved patterns, is daunting but worth it. “The Women” By Kristin Hannah

At a party celebrating her brother Finley being shipped overseas to fight in Vietnam, Frances McGarth’s eyes are opened to the possibility of women as heroes. Found standing in front of her father’s coveted heroes wall by Rye Walsh, Finely’s friend, who inspires her to serve. Frances proceeds to volunteer as a nurse, the only way women are allowed to participate in combat. Hoping she’d be able to see her brother and be the first female addition to the wall, adorned with her ancestors who served in previous battles. Once there, Frances finds out the infirmary is fraught with trauma and danger. Leaving her in do or die situations.

It’s in Vietnam where she meets life long best friends Barbara Johnson & Ethel Flint, after being put through the wringer. Women who become family. Pulling her out of the trenches of despair as she battles ptsd, heartbreak, deception, betrayal, drug addiction and self-harm. Reacclimatizing to life back home is difficult when society invalidates the role women played in the war, denying their existent overseas altogether, and degrades veterans upon re-entry. A harrowing, bittersweet must read. To everyone who participated after being coerced by the United States Government and discarded, thank you for your service. Via: Amazon

First In The Bloodline Trend Part 1

Following in footsteps to continue a legacy is cool and all, but let’s take a moment for the black sheep. Those who are the first to ever do it in their bloodline. Veering isn’t easy, kudos to those who carve their own path. Big or small. Are you the first in your bloodline to do something? Via: Zikoko Magazine

Preventing Sexual Assault: Do’s & Don’ts

Victims aren’t the problem, those who assault and enable assaulters are. Taking advantage of someone, doing things without consent is never acceptable. It doesn’t matter if the person is wearing a shirt with a derogatory term, i.e SLUT. If they say no, it means no. If you weren’t given permission it means no. If they say no after the action is going, it means STOP. If they’re drunk and you’re sober, knowing they’d never touch you otherwise, it means no. Ahem, Meghan Straw, if I see you before hell you’re getting faded. Period. Not playing with you or your shitty friends. Men get sexually assaulted too. Artist: Natalie Byrne

Proof: I’m A Divine Who Decides Your Fate

Let’s recap. Jaquana Cornelius said the following:
Zohran Mamdani is going into office, not Andrew Cuomo (read The Missing Piece To Cuomo’s Losing).
-I’m going to turn the midterm elections blue, giving the Democrats the win (read Bye Republican Party, You’re Cooked) & (read Zohran Mamdani Passes Vibe Check).
-It’s time for women to reign, because men have been nothing but abusive trash (read Bad News For The All Boys Clubs).

And what happened…

Zohran Mamdani won the mayoral race, despite Cuomo refusing to accept defeat in the primaries, and running as an Independent. All that money from billionaires with Zionist agendas wasted.

The Democrats swept the midterms.

14 states will be ran by female governors, a record. Do note I don’t need greedy Zionist jew, minor Goddess Tali Farhadian Weinstein for SHIT. She fucked up her spot in history, due to delusion and avarice. Bye hoe. Went to Yale, but apparently isn’t smart enough to know her place in myths as a sidekick or non-existent (read Tali Farhadian Weinstein’s Zionist Agenda). Fuck around and find out. I die, everyone dies. I join the Illuminati if my husband changes his mind, and there is no comprise. I run everything while being able to off, enslave, and control the ops faster.

I have all the power, I have all the witchcraft. The group was created to worship my Athena/ Minerva variation. I don’t need to summon power from lesser entities I created, who became ungrateful and were using my powers in the first place. Are you fucking slow? Clearly you’re mentally ill, because insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. A disbelief in who I am only validates the person is evil, stupid, and unwell. I make the rules. I decide your fates. I’m the person whose ass you have to kiss. Hubris won’t be tolerated, Kali & Shiva. Via: NBC News, TheDemocrats & Boardroom

The World Is Broken

“Men still rule the world and as a result the world is broken. Men still hold most positions of power, men control governments, men control the media, and it is always men who start wars. Men have tricked women into thinking they see us as equals, but real equality, for all women everywhere, still feels like little more than a pipe dream.”

Halloween Inspo: O-Ren Ishii

Becoming the leader of Tokyo’s Yakuza makes O-Ren Ishii a feminist icon and a bad bitch. Definitely a character worthy of Halloween accolades. To be this boss you’ll need a pristine white kimono, a sash, a sword and the sleekest bun with side bang anyone has ever seen. Bonus points if you manage her final scene sans cranium, exposing her brain. It’s Halloween go all out. Via: Wiki Fandom, Reddit & What Culture

Wise Words From A Drag Queen

Ladies, there’s a time and a place to be docile and to be a bitch. Different circumstances require the appropriate hat. If it means being met with invective speech, so be it. Men don’t receive backlash for the same behavior, why should you? Women are sacred, the anchor between both worlds and should be treated as such. Via: W Magazine
