Is it better to burn out or fade away? This is the question Demi-God Achilles must answer. Prophesied to be the greatest warrior of his time, the fastest to ever do it accepts his fate, until outcast prince Patroclus becomes his constant companion. While the two are best friends for life in Homer’s “Iliad,” Madeline Miller reinterprets their relationship into one of romantic love. Beginning in adolescence, lasting until the day Patroclus dies at Hector’s hand. Causing Achilles who spurned fighting, to fulfill his destiny by partaking in the Trojan War. A legendary battle started over of Helen Of Troy’s beauty. Epic, as the most powerful Gods & Goddesses have stake in this mortal affair.
Dealing with topics of fate, freewill, lgbtq+, love and gender, this book is a page turner for sure. I couldn’t put it down. As a youth I was obsessed with Greek mythology, devouring anything I could get my hands on. I’m a fanatic when it comes to Madeline Miller, feeling the same regarding “Circe.” She does a really good job giving depth to centuries old tales, making them new again. Creating a deeper bond between the reader and these iconic characters, by giving context. Via: Wikipedia
