November Grounding Via Self-Care

Grounding is essential for ridding yourself of negative energy, practicing introspection and being present. As we exit November here are some ways to do so via self-care. Even though it’s cold there is something to be admired in every season, walking outside crisp air stinging my face, I feel alive. Their’s beauty in the cold and I’m not just saying that as a winter baby. Your mind isn’t in the past, nor the future, but the present as you endeavor to maintain warmth in that very moment. It also makes me grateful as suddenly heat in every form is a commodity, I’m fortunate to have boots, a winter jacket, gloves, a scarf. Simple and overlooked until you look a homeless person crying on the subway platform in the face with none of the above, a makeshift cigarette rolled with what looked like printer paper, and soiled, ratty socks. While we choose what to wear, he’s using all he has to survive the freeze and doesn’t have enough. Doesn’t know if he ever will. Just hopes to live to see Spring. (S)He Had Today

Believing herself to be buried, I assured my friend of fifteen plus years she’s really being planted. That everything happens for a reason and to be on a long break from the person you love most, without knowing if they’d return, aches now but will lead to a brighter future.

“I think you’re going through a dark night of soul, it rips the floor from under you, to bring you closer to god by doing spiritual work. You’re too focused on the material, you define yourself by the external, your friends, your job, who you’re dating what you’re doing, but who are you when it all falls away?”

I won’t go into the details of her situation, but long story short she wanted her love back. Watching him date someone else revealed she’d taken him for granted. When he voiced his concerns she heard him, but didn’t listen until she lost him. I pushed her into doing spiritual work after letting her fall apart.

Do yoga to release the negative energy you pick up throughout the day from others and your environment. Even if it’s in addition to other workout routines.
Meditate to listen to your soul, the answers will come to you. Control your mind.
Pray for what you want. Talk to god. Be specific.
Self-care: skin routines, baths, journal, get pampered and glammed, get a massage. Value yourself to attract others who value you.
Set boundaries. Stop being there for people who aren’t there for you.
Own your shit, this is your karma, acknowledge that you did the same thing to somebody else.
Right your wrongs, apologize to those you’ve hurt. Dismantle your ego.
Focus on the intention, are you doing something with the intention to be negative and low vibrational, or positive and high vibrational, because it all comes back to you.

Skeptical, I nagged her to at least try. Finally she did and his responses (after six months) got longer, his resentment slowly but surely dissipating. He told her more than what she expected to hear and still she wasn’t happy.

“Because you’re living in the past, what was. And the future, what you want it to be, but you aren’t present.”

“You’re right,” she replied, “Even though we aren’t together, right now he loves me and I love him.”
“And if things should change you’ll worry about it when it comes. At least he’s talking to you again.”
All that matters is she had today and she had flowers.

Are you missing your blessings because you aren’t grounded in the present? What past are you reliving? What future are you hoping for? Are you willing to do the work to be here now? Why or why not? I recommend you read The Power Of Now. Artist: Zeppelin Moon

Be Here Now

A cool saying.

One person longing for another.

A demand.

I’ve seen it sprayed on walls and inked on flesh. But what did it mean?

An over thinker, I make simple things complex. Sayings like “You can’t have your cake and eat it too,” escape my mind, like water through fingers. What does it mean? Exactly that. The answer my ex-boyfriend always gave. You can’t have a cake and eat it, because once you eat it, the cake is gone.

Years, it took years to understand. Be here now. It wasn’t youthful slang, yearning, or a commandment. It was a call to be present. Now is all we have.

Where does your mind wander in stillness?

Reliving the past and/or planning for the future, never enjoying the present moment.

Meditation, a podcast, an Eckhart Tolle book and yoga. All of it unveiled that I was living my day to day life on autopilot, going through the motions, completing task blankly. Jumping from one thing to the next.

Take a beat, look around the room, name three objects, the colors, shapes, sizes. Take a mental note of what you’re doing. How do you feel about it?

If you ask a tree for the time it would say now. The past has vanished, the future hasn’t manifested. Now is all there is.

Ground yourself by being here now. You are alive and that is enough.
