An apt time to post these stills of Netflix’s “Bad Surgeon,” a documentary I watched at the beginning of the month. Swiss Italian surgeon Paolo Macchiarini mislead patients into believing a plastic tube, covered in their own stem cells would serve as a trachea replacement. Due to his affiliation with prestigious Karolinska Institute, one of the world’s most renown medical research centers, no one ran a fine tooth comb through his methods. Macchiarini altogether skips the mandatory step of performing innovative surgeries on animals first. Once surgeons amass conclusive data of the treatments success rate, then and only then are they allowed to perform said surgery on human patients. Being a white man with reputable ties, Macchiarini murdered multiple people with his unfounded claims. In some cases elongating their suffering, since the plastic caused infections and incredible amounts of pain. Knowingly deceiving the next person that his operations worked, they’d survive.

Had the media and multiple institutions paying the media, not spread misinformation, Macchiarini’s actions wouldn’t have been possible. Pretending the two have been a solid, real couple for years. Despite the very same sources publishing contradictory information. Make it make sense. It doesn’t.

The media needs to be held accountable for the destruction they’ve caused, the murders they’ve assisted in, the souls dragged to hell, the lives they’ve damaged. If you can’t uphold the pillars of journalistic integrity, at the expense of victims, don’t fucking exist. I’m not only going to take your money, but your credibility. All while gaining the public’s trust with the truth, seeing to it that monopolizing the industry is dismantled. The media placing profit over people is a global public safety issue.
